An authentic but simple recipe for Italian meatballs. These delicious meatballs in Marinara sauce can be served along with hot cooked pasta or on their own.
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/3 cup dry bread crumbs
1/3 cup grated onion
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg
2 minced garlic cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon rubbed sage
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Marinara sauce
Preheat oven to 400 deg. F. Spray the broiler pan with nonstick cooking spray. In a large bowl, combine beef, breadcrumbs, onion, milk, cheese, egg, garlic, basil, salt, oregano, sage and red pepper flakes. Mix lightly. Shape the mixture into meatballs.
Place the meatballs in the prepared pan. Bake for 30 minutes.
Add the cooked meatballs to the Marinara sauce. Simmer, uncovered till the meatballs are cooked through.
To serve, you can add additional grated Parmesan cheese on top.
