Hamburger Rice

This ground beef and rice skillet dish is a winner with kids. It’s quick and easy to prepare so you can rustle up a special dinner minus the sweat and tears. Try this tasty and colorful dish for dinner tonight.

Ingredients: 

1 lb ground beef
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, sliced and separated into rings
1 medium green pepper, coarsely chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 cup medium grain rice
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon salt

Directions: 

In a skillet, heat the oil over a moderate heat. Add the ground beef, onion, green pepper, and garlic and cook until meat is browned. Drain off any excess fat. Add rice and cook stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Next, add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, basil, water and salt. Bring to the boil and reduce the heat.
Cover and simmer for 25 minutes or until rice is tender, stirring occasionally.

Tips: 

You could sprinkle about half a cup of shredded cheese on top before serving.
